Activity Viewer 2012?

description

Any plan to make this handy utility work on a SSAS 2012 only server? When I tried to connect to a SSAS 2012 instance from a server where only SSAS 2012 is installed. I received the following error "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

However, if I run the utility from a server where SSAS 2008 is installed, I can connect to a remote SSAS 2012 instance just fine.

I think version doesn't matter because I work well on 2012. Try to look up AS settings.

My impression is that it can successfully connect to 2012 instances but it needs to be installed on a server with the SQL 2008 client.

Hi,

I updated the Activity Viewer with the references for 2012. This means you can run it on a machine that does not have SSAS 2008 on it.

Here is a blog post I wrote about how I did this:

In the interests of full disclosure I merely updated the references and the UI. All other code is exactly as is in the 2008 version. I hope you find it useful.
